LAMill rolling out new drinks

LAMill Coffee in Silver Lake is introducing two new drinks today, one whose description sounds crazy, and the other less-crazy but not coffee-based.

The Caramel Corn drink combines peanut milk, a shot of espresso, and layers of popcorn- and sea salt-infused whipped cream topped with caramel sauce. I told you it sounds crazy, but also intriguing…

The other drink is called Sweet Basil Julep, and while there’s no bourbon (darn!) there is  muddled basil, lemon, brown sugar and white tea poured over crushed ice. Sounds refreshing for summer.

Both drinks cost $5 (I’m told there’s only one size).

I’m a little late commenting here, but I’ve tried both of these drinks, and they are excellent.

The sweet basil julep is very refreshing, and served in a lowball/rocks glass. I wish they served it in a bigger glass because I can’t put it down, it tastes so good. I’ve even taken up making knock-off versions of them for family functions. Except they’re mostly for me, because I’m the one who ends up drinking most of the pitcher.

The caramel corn is another world entirely. It’s like a flavor journey. I know that sounds really weird, but hear me out: it starts out with a kick of the slightly bitter coffee flavor, then moves into the sweet, smooth caramel, and then, when you think you’re done, you suddenly get this soft popcorn aftertaste. Well, not really an aftertaste, but the flavor comes in later. (Maybe if I drank more wine and less tea I’d know what that’s called…) This one is served in basically a doubleshot glass, as are most of their specialty coffee drinks (coffee and a jelly donut, blanco y negro, etc). Somewhat on the pricey side, but if you love interesting drinks, it’s worth it.
