Simmzy’s Long Beach

Want to have a nice meal with good food and drink but don’t want to deal with having to dress up? Then Simmzy’s is your place.

Founded by brothers Mike Simms, who also owns Tin Roof Bistro and M.B. Post, and Chris Simms, owner of Lazy Dog Cafe, Simmzy’s is a casual pub with an upscale menu — a gastropub, if you will. Chef Anne Conness works it out with creative (but not too creative as to be off-putting) dishes, such as the Bacon & Date Mascarpone Pizza and the addictive Blue Cheese Haystack (shoestring fries smothered in blue cheese dressing, garlic and spicy sauce).

Hotel deals and steals

Luxe Hotel Sunset Boulevard. From

Looking for a place to get away this summer? Or maybe you’re just looking for a day trip? In any case, there are lots of hotel deals going on right now. Here are some notables:

Luxe Hotel Sunset Boulevard: This urban property in the Bel Air area is offering a Sunday daycation package that includes brunch for two at the hotel’s OnSunset restaurant, an all-day cabana rental, tennis court rental, 90-minute massages for two, and parking for the day for $350. Considering the price of cabana rentals in L.A. (Luxe’s go for $200 a day usually), this package is a bargain (relatively speaking, of course). The deal is good through the end of September.

Hotel Maya: No, I didn’t open a hotel and name it after myself. This new property is located in Long Beach right on the water so you can enjoy the bay from your room or your private floating cabana. There is also a special package being offered through the end of the year: for $149 per person per night, you can get a full breakfast, a three-course dinner at the hotel’s Fuego restaurant, Mexicali chocolate at check in, daily sangria tasting, water taxi ticket and overnight self parking. From Thrillist.

The Rundown also had a nice list of hotel deals recently, including those from hotels in Sonoma, Aspen, New York and New Orleans.
